Christmas, New Years and the Holidays:
True to my word, I have spent most of this special season spending time with my wife, family and friends. However, I wanted to share something small, simple and powerful as we're beginning a new year and chapter in all of our lives. It is in this pivotal moment of decision making where we must decide where the priorities for an entire year will lay.
We must plan our lives around the world around us, our friends, our work, our family and most importantly God. The picture to the left is from NFL Quarterback Drew Brees. He is the QB of the #NewOrleansSaints and is a professing Christian. One of the things he posted from his Christmas presents was a Bible that was presented to him. Ben Watson, a TE (tight end) on the team, purchased and had engraved a Bible for the team members.
It is small steps and symbols like this that encourage me and help remind me what the important parts of life really are. Ben Watson is a football player, not a preacher. He is an athlete, not a minister. But, he shines forth the light and the word of God to others around him. All Christians are ministers of the gospel, in one way or another, whether we like it or not. It is unavoidable. To apply the term "Christian" to you and your household brings forth a response, thought or action from everyone, no matter what that might entail.
You see, we are Christ's ambassadors:
2 Corinthians 5:20
"Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God."
So my New Year's resolution is simply this. I want to be a better Christian. I want to be more Christ like. The more I think about it, the more I truly believe in my heart everything else will fall into place. If I, with my whole heart, pursue and chase after God, the resolutions I might have chosen will happen as well.
Thus, I encourage you to make your New Year's resolution, and during this wonderful season, to really drive after God. Then, at the end of 2014, look back, and see if it changed your life for the better. This is what I'm going to do.
I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas, and I look forward to talking to all of you in 2014!!!
