How to hold a conversation:
What a title huh? Well I just felt, for a few reasons and for quite awhile, that I needed to share on the subject of prayer. You know what, for the purpose of this devotional we aren't even going to use the word prayer anymore(I actually am I'm just making a point!). I am going to call it what it really is in it's most basic form. It is a conversation.
Now, I know most of you have probably just experienced prayer through sermons, seeing it done in church and so on. Let me tell you something, the church has over-complicated prayer!!! It seems we go to these Sunday morning services, church conferences, revivals, and every other imaginable resource. Prayer became this multi-process, multi-functioned Christianity program that we go through instead of being what it really is.
Ok, don't misunderstand me, there are some pretty awesome teachings about prayer and I'm not taking away from those in any way, but what I am saying is there is a simple truth about prayer that gets lost in all of the sermons and teachings.
Prayer is nothing more than communication with God. Let me show you.
1 Samuel 3:1-10 is a story about Samuel when he was still young under the tutelage of Eli. Here God is calling out to Samuel.
1 Sa 3:8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy.
1Sa 3:9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, 'Speak, LORD, for your servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
1Sa 3:10 And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant hears."
See that? See how simple it was? Lets put it in lamen's terms. "God, talk to me."
You find this all throughout the Bible. Whenever you're going through something doesn't have to be the only reason you pick up your spiritual phone and dial the heaven hotline. Talk to God, spend time with Him. It really is that simple.
Just. Talk.
I know this message is a basic one, but its true and its something I need in my life as a reminder as well.
God bless, and much love!
