Where is your heart?
There is an interesting scripture in the Bible. (Surprise surprise) that teaches us an important theme. This single scripture could change your very outlook on life.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not corrupt and thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.—Matthew 6:19-20
Its a message we've heard preached so many times, but we can't let that diminish the power of this Word! There your heart will be also. So, simple question today. Where is your heart? I know the obvious answer is supposed to be "Jesus, my heart is 100% Jesus! All I live breathe and think is Jesus!". Well, if you tell me that I'm not going to believe you lol. Lets just dissect my own life as an example. I have passions for my wife, my church, New Orleans' Saints football, prepping. Star Trek and computer games. Now, none of these things are the reason I live and breathe but they are treasured to me.
I think where a lot of people get caught up is they think that if you have something like this, then you're taking away from God. Personally, I like to involve God in everything I do. You can be certain that God is at the very core of my marriage and my church, and God comes before even football (though I will admit there is a twinge of sadness when I miss a game). To determine where your heart is, you need only to do what the scripture says. Where is your treasure stored?
I like to keep God involved in everything. Even though not all my treasures are necessarily God-focused (I couldn't think of a way to make grown men hitting each other as hard as they could and throwing a pig skin around a God-thing) I store all of those treasures in my relationship with God. Its through Him we have anything and everything, so it is to Him I will give all the glory.
God bless!
