Where's the faith?
There used to be a commercial from Wendy's that exclaimed "Where's the beef". The premise of the commercial was there wasn't any "meat" to the sandwiches of their competitors and they only provided fluff and extras to make the burger seem appealing.
For something the Bible says we need everyday to walk with Christ, we often suffer with having it for anything let alone our personal relationship with Jesus. Myself included face doubt, struggle with my belief in certain areas and constantly have to turn my heart to renew my search for all the Lord's ways.
My pastor hit on it this morning in one of the best faith sermons I've ever listened to, and one of his key points was that doubt comes to all. It is part of the faith process. The main thing I notice from all of my friends, acquaintances and just every day people I come across is we have faith in the most insignificant things. I am definitely part of this trend. Lets take, for example, my passion for football.
Many people aren't familiar with my "football" side (those of you that read my devotionals) just like not many of the people who read my football articles are that familiar with my passion for Christ. They come here, see that I love God, but they don't get plugged in. They look at what they came for (if you're curious, go to the top right of this article and click on "The Man Cave" for my personal blog) and leave. Now I'm not talking bad about anyone, I'm simply addressing something we as Christians struggle with.
We struggle having faith that God really can do all things!

Isn't that what we're telling God in a way? How come we can have faith (the evidence of things unseen) that our football team is going to win the football game, but we can't have the same faith that God is going to come through in our everyday lives. God can raise the dead, heal the sick, fix your marriage, turn water into wine or even pay your light bill, but it takes faith.
1 John 5:4
for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
Man, overcoming all these yucky worldly things sure does sound awesome doesn't it? Well, it takes faith. As my pastor pointed out today. Doubt comes, the devil knows if you doubt and don't persevere (and let faith attain it's perfect work) then you will not get what God has for you. But if you press forward, stick to your faith, you'll see God in your life.
That is my first challenge for myself and all of you as we start of this new year. Be a man or woman of faith. Don't just believe God is going to do it for a moment. Face the doubt that comes and realize you serve a God who is stronger than any doubt that presents itself.
Fighting the good fight of faith means there must be an opponent for you to fight.
Good thing we're equipped to win the war.
God bless,
